FWR Episode 004

The dust has settled on the personal interferences, vacation plans, and marathon sessions of Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear Solid that have blocked our podcast progress for the last few weeks. We invite you to explore FWR Episode 004, in which we:

Record in a tiny closet during the Writer’s Edge conference in Portland, Oregon, and forget to introduce ourselves.

Discuss the portrayals of war in games in reference to the Call of Duty and Metal Gear Solid franchises.

Think about the labor issues involved with the recent controversy regarding voice actors in Grand Theft Auto IV.

Look for our GTA Blowout episode soon, and thanks for listening.

John Weis has some feedback here (thanks, John!):

Despite the diminished audio quality of the recording, this FWR continued the thoughtful, enjoyable commentary about America’s pastime. Your prologue about sexuality in games was pretty interesting, and I’d like to point out the DS game Rub Rabbits, as well as the homebrewed DS game Lapis (http://www.moboid.com/lapis/). They address relationships and sexuality in ways that capitalize on the interface of the DS, and if you haven’t already taken a look at them, I’d highly recommend that you do so.

    John,

I have been trying to find Rub Rabbits in my local corporate used game emporium and am having zero luck points thus far. I have been doing some reading about the game, though, and it does sound pretty interesting — thanks for the tip.

Your kind words about the show are also appreciated. We would love to hear more from you, particularly in reference to our newly updated Book Club selection. Thanks for listening!
